Japie is a qualified auditor and is an auditing and accounting technical subject matter specialist, with 11 years experience in the audit of owner-managed and listed companies. At BDO he is responsible for technical auditing, accounting and other opinions as and when it arises. He is also responsible for internal risk in the Johannesburg office and audit quality assurance on a national basis. His client portfolio includes Braemore Resources PLC and KSB Pumps SA (Pty) Limited.

Prior to joining BDO, Japie was with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), where he conducted practice and engagement reviews on the work of registered auditing firms to monitor their compliance with the professional standards.
