Experience

Marthie was the founder and CEO of Protect-A-Partner and then Protect-A-Director. Marthie specialises in assisting Registered Auditors and Financial Reporting Professionals to comply with international standards, regulations and requirements from professional bodies, statutes and governance codes. She has performed countless private sector and public sector reviews on behalf of the Auditor General South Africa on all sectors of government, including National Intelligence Agency, Premiers, Legislatures, NPA, DTI etc. She also was the person who developed and implemented the AGSA’s first ISQC1 quality control policies and procedures.

She also worked for the IRBA and performed an estimated 600 practice reviews (inspections), and has been an EQCR and/or monitoring reviewer for many large entities fund managers, assets managers, wholesalers, investors, retailers, both listed and unlisted and private and public sector entities. She has assisted regulators and institutes across Africa monitoring and quality developing, including projects for the World Bank, and has presented training to delegates from approximately 45 countries on technical topics.

She has received an award for the Most Influential Business Woman from the CEO Magazine in the category ‘Regulatory Environments’. She was a member of the IRBA’s Investigations Committee and is currently a member of the Disciplinary Committee of SAICA and has worked on many high profile cases involving auditors and CAs. In addition, she has been part of one of the sub-committees at the IoD that developed the King Code of Corporate Governance (King IV). Marthie will become the National Head of Monitoring and Remediation in her new role at BDO.

  • LL.M International Business Law (University of Liverpool) (cum laude)
