Stephen Shaw

Experience

Stephen is a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than twenty-five years of auditing experience. Stephen articled with BDO in Johannesburg, after which he was seconded to our network office in Manchester, UK, for a period. Stephen returned to BDO Johannesburg in 1995 as a senior audit manager and was admitted as a partner in the firm of the firm in 1996.

During his time as a partner, Stephen has served as our Staff Partner, and has served on our Executive Committee as our National Head of Audit. During 2014, Stephen attended Harvard Business School to attend a programme in Leading Professional Service Firms. More recently, Stephen has also completed an Advanced Diploma in Estate and Trust Administration from the University of the Free State.

Stephen’s experience as an audit partner comes from servicing a diverse range of clients, however his specialism lies in manufacturing. Stephen is also a JSE-accredited auditor and has experience across several JSE-listed entities, ranging from construction and franchising to airlines and property REITs. Stephen is also responsible for many of our internationally referred assignments, particularly out of BDO in Germany and BDO in the UK. Acting as a component auditor on referred assignments for multi-national organisations, Stephen is experienced in dealing with group reporting and the associated tight reporting deadlines.
