VAT has become an important aspect of companies and it has become imperative that all employees in the finance sector have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of VAT.

Our VAT back to basics will offer a good understanding of the application of VAT and will be beneficial to all finance employees. Even those with a good VAT knowledge will benefit and be brought up to speed with the latest developments.

The course will deal with the following:

  • Introduction to VAT
  • Input tax e.g. VAT on entertainment, imports and documentary requirements to substantiate an input tax claim
  • Zero rated supplies of goods and services
  • Deemed supply’s
  • Time of supply rules
  • General VAT compliance
  • The Tax Administration Act and dealing with SARS.

Discussions will further be dealt with in respect of the latest developments in VAT legislation and any current amendments.

Various case studies and examples will be used to demonstrate the fundamentals to assist delegates in understanding the application thereof.

MEET OUR PRESENTER: Samantha King – VAT Specialist

Samantha King is a Tax Manager at BDO with more than 6 years’ experience in VAT. She oversees VAT compliance and assists corporate clients with VAT related advice and assistance.


Samantha is involved with a wide range of multinational companies on a variety of VAT related issues in many different business sectors such as mining, pharmaceutical, freight and logistics, non-profit organisations and government parastatals. She holds a Bcom Accounting Science degree and Advanced Certificate in Value-Added Tax.
