Imtiaaz joined BDO as an audit trainee in 1997 where he later worked in the capacity of manager from the year 2000 and was responsible for many staff members whom he mentored, coached and motivated. Imtiaaz was further responsible for ensuring client satisfaction through efficient service delivery and consistently delivering high standards of work.

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the year 2002, Imtiaaz went to work for Ernst & Young in the Cayman Islands. He worked in the financial services sector concentrating mainly on auditing hedge funds. After 18 months he returned to Cape Town and was appointed as a Partner at BDO in January 2005. He continues in this role at BDO Cape Town, since the 2018 merger of Grant Thornton Cape with BDO South Africa.

Imtiaaz has Public Sector Experience including performing Pre-Issuance Reviews for various municipalities for the Auditor General since 2013. He is also responsible for signing off a TVET college under GRAP in preparation for the AG audit.

Imtiaaz is a member of the SAICA Practices Committee and Large Practices Committee in the Western Cape, and is involved in audits within various sectors including: NGO’s, listed companies, owner-managed businesses and financial services.

Imtiaaz is a Trustee and the Vice-Chairperson of a community religious organisation and has been a Trustee since 2010.

Imtiaaz is also a board member of the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of South Africa (“ABASA”).
