Experience
Lesego has over 11 years’ experience in the in the financial services industry, focusing mainly on providing external audit and accounting advisory services to general insurance, life insurance and reinsurance companies within the Southern Africa and Asia-Pacific region.
Her area of specialty is insurance accounting, where she develops accounting guidance aimed at providing thought leadership and helping clients and their various stakeholders implement IFRS. This includes frequently providing training sessions to the regulator, entities’ senior management as well as their actuarial and finance working groups on emerging industry, regulatory and accounting hot topics and application issues.
For the past six years she has assisted insurers and medical schemes on their IFRS 17 implementation journey both from an assurance and advisory perspective. Part of this role involved developing IFRS 17 accounting and audit guidance and participating in IFRS 17 working groups where practical challenges and differences in interpretation of the new requirements were discussed and debated.
As a partner in the Financial Services business unit, Lesego leads and delivers assurance and non-assurance services to Insurance and Insurance related entities, while also supporting the IFRS Technical department at BDO South Africa.

Lesego is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) industry specific working groups such as the SAICA IFRS 17 Project Group and SAICA Medical Schemes Projects Group. She is also part of the BDO International Insurance Centre of Excellence.
