Mark Stewart

Experience

Mark has been with BDO since 1985 and has been integral in driving the BDO global strategy in a local context. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990 and has practiced as a partner /director of BDO since 1991. He has a varied client base, ranging from family-owned businesses to JSE Listed companies.

In 2014 he was elected CEO for BDO South Africa, and successfully managed the firm through various mergers and acquisitions, and ensured the firm continued to thrive during a global pandemic. Mark stepped down as CEO in early 2022 after having served two terms.

Mark was recognised by his global peers when he received the BDO Medal for his contributions toward growing the Firm in 2018.

He currently works closely with BDO’s EMEA offices and his core focus is to growing the firm’s footprint in the region.

He also has experience on Audit Committees having chaired and been a member of both listed and public sector committees and currently serves as a Trustee of several charitable Trusts.

Other

Mark is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and is a registered auditor with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.

He is also an avid wine collector and enjoys running when he isn’t spending time with his wife and daughters.
