The Crypto Desk is focused on assisting BDO member Firms in Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East with navigating assurance and technical accounting approaches related to Crypto engagements.

The Desk will be run by Nevellan Moodley, Head of Financial Services Technology at BDO in South Africa, and supported by his (growing) team, who have a collective 15 years of crypto experience. Working closely with Shehnaaz Suleman, Financial Services IFRS Technical specialist, the team will be tasked with supporting BDO member firms navigating assurance and technical accounting approaches related to cryptocurrency.

In order to guarantee Global oversight, the team is aligned and working with the BDO Global Digital Assets Group run by David Butcher and Kyle Sewell, to ensure that all these engagements follow the prescribed BDO audit methodologies and quality standards.

The team in SA are also actively working on a technological solution to automate a part of the crypto audits, which they believe will play a critical role in ensuring quality standardisation across different continents and countries.
