2025 Tax return filing season Individuals

The 2025 tax return filing season will commence shortly. As your trusted tax professional we will assist in ensuring you experience a seamless and successful filing season. In this regard see below for your kind consideration.

SUBMISSION DUE DATES

Auto-assessments:                                       7 July 2025 to 20 July 2025

Non-provisional taxpayers:                         21 July 2025 to 20 October 2025

Provisional taxpayers & Trusts:                   21 July 2025 to 19 January 2026

SARS will impose administrative non-compliance penalties for the late or non-submission of your tax return. The penalties range from R250 to R16 000 per month depending on your prior year’s taxable income and will recur monthly until your tax return is submitted.

Note provisional taxpayers: you can make a voluntary provisional tax payment to settle or reduce your normal tax liability by 30 September 2025. The payment will reduce the interest charged on assessment where your final tax liability exceeds the taxes already paid. In order for us to attend to this calculation we require your tax information in good time (covering the period 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025)

SARS AUTO-ASSESSMENTS

Where SARS notifies you that an auto-assessment will or has been issued in respect of your 2025 tax year, do not act on such as the auto-assessment may not be accurate. Kindly advise us thereof so that we can verify the information.

CESSATION OF TAX RESIDENCE

If you relocated to another country during the 2025 tax year you will need to determine whether you ceased to be a South African tax resident. This cessation has both normal tax and SARS disclosure consequences.

ASSETS IN EXCESS OF R50 MILLION

If the value of your assets exceeds R50 million you are required to submit a statement of assets and liabilities as at 28 February 2025, reflecting both local and foreign assets at cost and market value.

TAX INCENTIVES: RENEWABLE ENERGY

If you purchased qualifying assets used in the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources for purposes of your trade or business, you can claim a deduction of 100% or 125% of your cost in terms of section 12B or 12BA, respectively.

Note: solar panel incentive in respect of installations at your primary residence ended 29 February 2024.

QUESTIONNAIRE: PROMPT FOR TAX INFORMATION

In order for us to complete your 2025 tax return by the applicable due date we require your tax information in good time (covering the period 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025).
