Quality Commitment

Our dedication to quality is a fundamental part of our business strategy and culture. It is anchored in our purpose, which commits us to helping people achieve their dreams, and bolstered by our challenger brand value proposition, which elevates our people, our business and our society.

In line with those pledges, we acknowledge and commit to our role in serving the public interest. Our ongoing investment in our quality management system, which is centred around our people, processes and technology, enables us to continuously improve and strengthen our quality. We continue to invest in sustainable initiatives to enhance quality. These include:

  • The introduction of a Quality Oversight Committee whose mandate is to oversee and support quality management, through a shared quality-setting process, by involving key role players. The objective is to enhance the quality and consistency of auditing, assurance and other related services, as well as advisory and tax-related services within BDO South Africa.
  • The introduction of in-flight reviews on selected engagements, mandated consultation requirements in certain areas, implementation of a dedicated Engagement Quality Reviewer team and enhancement of our Monitoring and Remediation team, as well as our Compliance team.
  • As part of a global network, we are following a Core Accreditation Criteria programme in the following five areas: Audit Quality, Independence, Brand, Information Security/Privacy and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
  • BDO has a Global Centre for Audit Quality and we have access to BDO's Regional Head of Assurance Quality – EMEA.
  • The BDO Global Quality Monitoring Programme (QMP) is designed to monitor firms’ compliance with professional standards, as well as incremental BDO standards and requirements, including policies, procedures, methodologies and tools.
  • Client engagements are done via our globally developed client portal.
  • Our rigorous internal Engagement Quality Reviews (EQR) and internal compliance processes (such as annual internal quality control file reviews) use a risk-based approach.
